AFRICAN ART

PRIVATE COLLECTIONS

Encounters with the Past and Present.

My collections are related to my discerning eye and are visually linked to my art work.

Each object represents a specific time period (spreading over 20 years)

and style in my work and interest.

I have made a small selection of the entire collection and my personal relationship with

them are on the level of pictorial information and a source for establishing ideas.

These are some of the objects that I have in my own collection. I like to accumulate

rather small pieces with a interesting patina, history and of a high aesthetic presence.

As my work changes - so does my interested towards collecting which will always be

Influenced by the composition of form, shapes, colours and cultural meaning.

*

Due to a rather expressive nature and drawn to the Abstract Ekpressionism Movement

in America - especially the work of Jackson Pollock, Miro and Picasso - I though create

my own original interest and art work. A personal iconography with metaforical content.

My inner personality is drawn to Mysticism, Primitivism and Rituals.

Pattern and the meaning of abstract form are great inspirations.

*

My work are related the unconscious mind and are visualised in the moment of purity and clarity of mind -

liberated from social or pre-conceived norms.

The ultimate test of genius is to pursue  truly personal imagery -

"A work of art is neither the faithful nor distorted representation, it is the immediate,

Unadorned record of an authentic intelecto-emotional reaction of the artist in space."

Immediate, unadorned and authentic and unconsciously unaware of these

elements. To be able to work from an inner compulsion. Imitation of nature,

technique or trained skill have nothing to do with art. Natural abilities clear this up.

One can describe this as the nirvana of creativity when one is truly liberated.

The perfect consious state of mind for me is harmony with nature and simplicity.

I though like to offer diversity in mood, expression and influences from the continent of Africa .

To absorb ideas, recycle them through the unconscious and into my art and in this process, make them my own.
